Hello and welcome!

My name is John Stevenson. Thank you for visiting my website. I am a proud Memphian who recently graduated from The University of Memphis with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism with a concentration in advertising. My college experience has presented me with learning opportunities both inside and outside the classroom, and I am eager to join the workforce where I can put my skills to use.

Internship Experience

I have had three invaluable internships that have strengthened my skills and exposed me to a variety of workplace environments. I have interned within The University of Memphis' marketing and communications department, at the archer>malmo advertising agency, and at International Paper. These internships have provided me with exceptional learning tools which cannot be found in the classroom.

Design Experience

I have used Adobe Creative Suite to design materials for several organizations at The University of Memphis including Up 'til Dawn (which raises money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital), the Society of Professional Journalists and the Sigma Chi Fraternity. I believe in simple yet eye-catching design. I enjoy the challenges that come with visual design projects.

Writing Experience

I find the English language fascinating, and I enjoy the challenge of using words to communicate an idea. I have been published in The University of Memphis Magazine and The Commercial Appeal. I also regularly write for my own roller coaster website, Coaster101. I am familiar with both AP Style and the Yahoo! Style Guide. I view writing as a skill that I am always working to improve.

Social Media Skills

I love social media. Through the social media accounts that I manage for my websites, Coaster101 and Remember Libertyland, I have built a follower base of around 5,000. I am also experienced with the NetBase and HootSuite social media management platforms. I believe engagement is the key to social media success, and I appreciate the opportunities social media present to reach those who care about a brand.

Photography + Videography

I also have experience with photography and video production. I have produced video for Up 'til Dawn and the Sigma Chi Fraternity national headquarters, among others. I also enjoy taking photographs both with my traditional digital camera and my iPhone. I use limited resources to make quality content.

Leadership + Teamwork

I was selected to participate in the Emerging Leaders program at The University of Memphis which is an extensive four-year leadership training and development program. I have studied various leadership theories while gaining leadership experience in student organizations at the University. Through serving on several executive boards, I have learned that I thrive in collaborative environments. I work well with others.

Interests

I love the city of Memphis and roller coasters (interesting combination, I know). A roller coaster enthusiast since a child. I enjoy travelling across the country to ride as many coasters as possible.

I also love Memphis. I think Memphis is a great city to live and work in, and I will debate anyone who thinks otherwise. From great food to St. Jude, Memphis is a city full of great things and great people. I also volunteer with local non-profits—I love the opportunity to give back to the Memphis community.

Based on these two interests, my dream job would be either in the amusement industry or working for a Memphis-related organization.
